The barn sits on the original Damman homestead dating back to 1885. The Whitehurst’s are the 3rd family to own this farm. The Damman School, just north of the farm is named after the original family and Thelm worked at the school for over 20 years. She has a love for quilting and has made quilts for all the members of her family. The ‘Schoolhouse’ quilt block pattern represents her service in education.
The ‘Fire Department Maltese Cross’ represents the 4 generations of fire fighters in the family. Jack’s Dad, Charles Whitehurst, was Fire Chief for District 2 for a number of years. Jack served in both Kittitas County and the city of Ellensburg for 55 years as a Firefighter.
The barn was built in 1987 and is used for Hay Storage.
