In April 2012 a group of community-minded friends met together at a local shop in Ellensburg, Washington to discuss the feasibility of a Barn Quilt Trail in the agriculturally rich, Kittitas County.

An enthusiastic response came from everyone that we had introduced the project to. The group’s expertise included business administration, project management, sales and marketing, writing, barn architecture and history, quilting and digital photography. Tasks were assigned according to time and experience and the Kittitas County Barn Quilt Trail was underway!

Barn Quilts of Kitttitas County, a non-profit, was registered with the state on June 19th, 2012.  A partnership with Washington State University Extension  and the Kittitas Chamber of Commerce was established soon after.  A grant from the City of Ellensburg provided the materials for the first Barn Quilts to be painted and installed Summer 2012.  Our goal is to have 100 Barn Quilts up by Spring 2014 and continue painting them until we run out of barns!
